Abstract :
The emergence of new types of popular multimedia services requires in the long run a quality-of-service (QoS) solution better than the best-effort service provided by IP. Failure to widely deploy either one of the main architectures for IP QoS, integrated services (IntServ) or differentiated services (DiffServ), has fueled research into alternate solutions. Therefore, an alternative approach for QoS provisioning for QoS-sensitive applications is necessary, which is able to provide support mechanisms for services in the application layer while retaining the best-effort network layer. Overlay network is a good choice, which has emerged as an attractive opportunity for supporting value-added services. This paper presents a cooperation of overlay network and flow label (IPv6 new feature), which is used to optimize the QoS path-selection.
