Abstract :
A new permutation coding system, called the composite permutation code or the multiple permutation code, is proposed for vector quantization. The study is motivated by the following fact: the permutation coding has a simple optimum block encoding procedure, but its performance is no good for real signals such as speech; vector quantization has an optimum coding potential, but it is limited by the computation complexity. We have combined these two systems and developed a mixed technique for designing permutation codes with a relative small block length with a good performance on real signals, while retaining their simplicity
