Abstract :
Error control codes such as single-bit error correcting (SEC) codes are used in computer memory systems. As another important error control function, error location, lying midway between error correction and error detection, was proposed by Wolf and Elspas (1963). The single-byte error locating code, or Seb/EL code, is a class of error locating codes which indicates the location of the erroneous b-bit block, called the byte, where b⩾2, if the error is e or fewer bits involved in a byte, where e<b. We propose SEC-Seb/EL codes, and show the construction method and bounds of these codes
