Abstract :
This paper describes the application of heuristics to computational electromagnetics (CEM) modeling and simulation tasks in order to efficiently analyze the EMC of large, complex electromagnetic structures. In this application an expert system knowledge base is constructed to contain essential CEM modeling rules and “scripts” describing the steps involved in a validated, bottoms-up/top-down EMC analysis methodology. Problem reasoning is performed on system geometries and computed quantities for a range of problem conditions, accuracy limits, interference states, and CEM as well as EMC model-specific constraints. The approach automates iterative “what if” assessments for EMC and other electromagnetic problems related to radiation and scattering. The application of heuristics is illustrated using the intelligent Computational Electromagnetics Expert System (ICEMES)
