Abstract :
In this paper, we study and compare the basic features and the capabilities of two existing techniques for stream synthesis: the spectral approach and the symbolic approach. The relative efficiency and flexibility of the two methods is further assessed by a comprehensive experimentation we have carried out on a large number of streams characterized by different statistical profiles. Data concerning the comparison of spectral synthesis to simple and stratified random sampling are also provided for the sake of completeness
