Abstract :
A surface plasmon assisted optical amplifier and oscillator is proposed and demonstrated. The oscillator is a silver film coated Ba(NO/sub 3/)/sub 2/ (barium nitrate) Raman crystal inserted in a Fabry-Perot optical resonator. The pumping line and a newly observed oscillating line correspond to the dipole and quadrupole surface plasmon resonances, respectively, in silver particles.
