  • Abstract
    We propose a power-saving technique for energy-aware optical access networks that considers users´ traffic distributions and hybrid transmission to set HGW-assisted ONU sleep mode. Based on data on traffic trends in residential broadband networks, we model the traffic distribution as a probability density function with lognormal distribution and classify users into two types. Numerical simulations based on the proposed traffic model show that it offers 60 % power-savings; even if the traffic distribution is not considered it improves the power efficiency by approximately 30 %.
