Abstract
A depth of surface relief gratings (SRG) which is fabricated by the irradiation of laser interference fringes in azo-polymer films are improved by poling. The first-order diffraction efficiency is improved from 1.1% to 7.1%. We describe the diffraction efficiency improvement of SRG by poling. Diffraction efficiency and relief depth of SRG by poling or heating is evaluated and theoretically considered. These characteristics are related to the fabrication mechanism of the surface relief electro optical grating (SREOG) by corona poling.
