Abstract
The basic mobile IP supports registration but not paging. This mechanism will face a number of challenges, because the signaling overhead associated with mobility management will largely increase as the number of mobile users scale-up. Paging extension for Mobile IP (P-MIP) was proposed to decrease the signaling overhead by extending mobile IP with paging. In this paper, we introduce a novel IP paging scheme - the user´s mobility feature based IP paging (UMF-IP-paging) scheme to reduce the signaling costs, which is based on the architecture of hierarchical network-layer mobility management (HNMM). We focus on the performance evaluation of UMF-IP-paging scheme through theoretical analysis and simulation in this paper. And the analysis and simulation results show that UMF IP-paging scheme can significantly reduce the signaling costs caused by mobility management and is capable of minimizing the paging cost under the delay bounds.
