Abstract :
Our research on gamma radiation damage in packed Ø1″ × 1″ crystals of LaBr3:5%Ce, LaCl3:10%Ce, and CeBr3 is presented. All the samples have been subjected to the same irradiation schedule, comprising gamma doses from 0.02 to 100 kGy from a 60Co source. It is shown that in spite of some deterioration of scintillation yield and energy resolution these materials, particularly LaBr3:5%Ce and LaCl3:10%Ce, can be regarded as gamma radiation hard and used as spectrometers in future planetary missions.
