Abstract :
Since the introduction of parametric active contours or snakes in 1988 many contour extraction methods have been proposed. We present a framework of contour extraction, that particularly meets the requirements of snakes and in which the majority of snake approaches developed during the last two decades incorporate into. The framework allows for easy comparison between snake variants and additionally permits to recombine existing approaches.
