Abstract :
Amongst the different receiver structures proposed for interference suppression in code division multiple access systems, the G-Rake receiver introduced in G.E. Bottomley, et al (2000) presents some interest for its simple structure and relatively low complexity. This receiver has the same structure of the classic Rake receiver but it inserts extra-fingers demodulating "false" paths in proper timing position with a proper finger output combining in order to mitigate the multiple access interference. One of the main issues is calculating the timing placement of these extra-fingers maximizing the receiver performances. In this paper we discuss briefly the proposed strategies on the timing placement and we present a new one based on signal to interference-plus-noise ratio maximization. We also compare their performances in 3GPP channel scenarios for high speed downlink packet access
