Abstract :
PANDA is a new universal detector for antiproton physics at the HESR facility of FAIR. The PANDA data acquisition and trigger system needs to handle interaction rates of the order of more than 107/s and data rates of the order of 100 Gb /s. Due to the comprehensive physics programme, no traditional hardware triggers are foreseen. Instead, the system is based on continuous data sampling with flash ADCs, a precision time distribution system and sophisticated online filtering algorithms which will be executed on ATCA compliant FPGA based Compute Nodes.
