Abstract :
A noise-analysis method for nonlinear circuits with a periodic excitation, e.g. switched-capacitor networks (SCNs) and mixer circuits, is proposed. The nonlinear circuits are modeled by linear periodic time-varying circuits. An equivalent current source is connected in parallel with each noise source and its output noise is computed. Thermal noise and shot noise from linear and nonlinear elements can be computed. Aliasing components folded back to the baseband from high-frequency bands are calculated, and their powers are accumulated until their contributions become negligible. This algorithm has been implemented in the SPREAD circuit simulator. Three switched-capacitor networks and a mixer circuit were simulated. The simulation results closely matched the exact solution for a simple switched-capacitor circuit. Furthermore, they nearly matched with the measured values
