Abstract :
The optimal shunt capacitor bank placement problem determines the optimal number, location, sizing, control type and setting of capacitor banks in order to maximize the benefits against the cost, energy loss, and voltage distortion. Many factors need to be taken into consideration, which makes the problem complex. This paper reviews and compares three major category of existing methods: analytical methods, optimization methods, and computational intelligent methods. Based on this survey, some recommended future work are proposed.
