Abstract
Using the advantage of Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline(NURBS) curves to represent spatial curves, an instruction format with NURBS curves, which is suitability for 3-axis coordinated real-time interpolation, is presented against the current line and arc interpolation methods with drawbacks of low-speed, low-accuracy and great Computer Numerical Control(CNC) files in sculptured surface machining. The method to realize the interpolation function in an open CNC system developed by ourselves is given. Through the real cutting a NURBS curve, it has been indicated that the proposed method can be added into the CNC system and the method is feasible.
