Abstract :
Many kinds of measurements like time of arrival (TOA), time difference of arrival (TDOA), received signal strength (RSS) and Angle of arrival (AOA) have been used for target localization in recent years. In this paper, two-dimensional AOA based target localization is considered. A method called Complex AOA (CAOA) conducted an interesting experiment on AOA-based localization, which showed that the accuracy of an intersection is associated with the deployment of the sensors and target. However, theoretical analysis governed this experiment was not done. In this paper, a method called weighted AOA (WAOA) based on the accuracy analysis of intersections is proposed. The analysis is consistent with the experimental result of the CAOA. The WAOA method gives a reasonable weight to every intersection and can get an accurate estimate by weighted merge all intersections of the bearing lines. Numerical examples demonstrate that the proposed WAOA method is more accurate than the Pseudo Linear-squares (PLS) and Sensitivity analysis (SA) methods in most cases and the RMSE of WAOA method is very close to the CRLB when the distances between sensors are large. Numerical examples also show that the WAOA method is faster than PLS method and SA method when the number of sensors is smaller than 7.
