Abstract
A control method for improving the efficiency of constant output power telecommunication rectifiers by varying the power factor correction (PFC) boost voltage is described. Experimental results obtained from a 1500 W rectifier are used to demonstrate that the losses at the worst case operating point can be reduced by around 10% and the efficiency at nominal operating conditions can be improved by around 0.6%. An implementation of the control methodology is proposed and an overview of the tradeoffs between dynamic characteristics and minimum losses is made
