Abstract
This paper is the fourth in a series describing the operation of a new battery technology for telecommunication application. This paper describes the first field trial of the lithium polymer battery (LPB) in a real environment. In cooperation with BellSouth Telecommunications Inc., ARGO-TECH selected a site where high temperature is a serious problem with actual lead acid technology. Two strings of 80 Ah were installed in parallel in a cabinet located in West Palm Beach, Florida. The paper describes how batteries and environment parameters are monitored from our head office in Boucherville, Quebec. It is shown how we are evaluating the performance of the batteries on a regular basis. Also described are the latest laboratory results for LPB in a Telco application
