Abstract :
Cogeneration systems (CGSs) provide electric power and heat simultaneously. They are being actively developed and installed as environment-friendly energy sources because they are more energy efficient and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. This paper describes the development of CGSs for telecommunications and data communications centers. The system design of a CGS should be optimized considering the electrical and heat requirements. For buildings that need both electricity and a lot of cooling for equipment, we developed a CGS with highly efficient cooling. For buildings that might need a lot of electricity and less heat, on the other hand, we developed a combined-cycle CGS having a steam turbine generator driven by the steam produced from the waste heat of exhaust gas
