Abstract :
We describe the content-based session management with respect to a distributed multimedia-on-demand system. An optimization technique for the switchable session management mechanism has been proposed using a selective admission algorithm performed by the session manager, which manages the session-related resources. This mechanism has been designed and evaluated for the optimal BHSA (busy hour session admission), represented by blocking rate and QoS (quality of service) confidence level determined by the frame rate and blocking rate, and, at the same time, the maximum number of simultaneous media streams. A centralized gateway to administrate the QOS supports this mechanism so that session can be switched due to the admission policy. The user application gains the effective QOS as for the distribution and redundancy of the contents. For maximizing the global throughput, it is necessary to allocate contents effectively into proper storage devices through smoothing the unbalanced utilization. As a result of simulation, it has been verified that the proposed mechanism for the content-based session management enhance the BHSA and QoS confidence level
