Abstract
This paper presents a review of converter topologies based on the Vector Switching Converter (VeSC) suitable for power flow control and power quality enhancement in power delivery systems. The key feature of the approach is the use ac link capacitors so that the dc capacitors used in the state-of-the-art technology, namely the dc link voltage source inverter, can be eliminated. The control function of ac link VeSCs is realized by direct ac/ac conversion without frequency change, adopting the strategy of pulse width modulation. Operating principles, equivalent circuits, and the relationship of these converters to their dc link counterparts is discussed. Illustrative examples in terms of computer simulations are also presented.
