Abstract :
This paper presents the design of a system which includes: a 5 Mpixel CMOS sensor, a high performance DSP and a network interface, performing video data acquisition, compression and transmission over IP. The software and hardware implementation are presented, the compression algorithm (MPEG2) and transmission protocols (RTP, RTCP) are described. Also the CMOS sensor functions management is integrated into the system. The implementation process is followed by optimization, leading to a competitive performance/cost ratio.
