Abstract
The following article presents the design concepts behind a stand-alone grade management system. The system uses digital signature for user authentication and data integrity preservation. In addition to grading data storage, the system delivers basic certification authority and key management functions. The system is based on J2EE and Hibernate, with JSP and Java applets in presentation layer and servlets for Controller and server-side processing. PGP compliant cryptographic library used is the BouncyCastle package
