Abstract
Not long after the California Partners for Advanced Transit and Highways (PATH) program was established, the program founders determined that a sustainable transportation system should embrace multimodal applications of ITS technologies. The PATH transit research program, benefiting from PATH´S heritage of leading research on ITS and advanced vehicle control and safety systems, investigates a wide range of advanced technologies and methodologies for improving public transportation systems. This paper provides an overview of the PATH transit research program through example projects showing the depth and breath of the program and the contributions PATH research has made to advancing state of the art transit technologies
