Abstract :
A critique of representative applications of AI technology in the contemporary steel industry is presented, focusing on actual examples of the use of AI techniques, and particularly expert systems. This technology is evaluated from the viewpoint of persons with onsite responsibilities for the application of AI. The authors communicate the current evaluation of AI technology by AI users with practical responsibilities to those involved with AI technology on the producer side, including AI makers, and universities and other research bodies
