Abstract :
In this article we present a new approach for car following. Generally, car following systems use active sensors or a stereoscopic system for 3D car localization. In this paper, we present a method that uses a license plate as an inherent car feature that can be tracked in real time. This visual information is then exploited to get the exact relative car localization needed by the car following system.
