Abstract :
The effective use of microprocessors in power plant systems can provide many benefits, including smaller component size and lighter equipment weight, easier maintainability enhanced economy. Because power receiving systems are ordinarily quite large and complicated, consisting of numerous subsystems, regular maintenance work usually takes a long time. NTT has thus developed an advanced, highly reliable power receiving system which effectively employs microprocessors to reduce maintenance work. This system mainly consists of the following equipment: (1) power receiving panel (PRP); (2) high voltage transfer branch panel (TBP); (3) transformer panel (TRP); (4) low voltage branch panel (LBP); and (5) power system supervision and control equipment (PS SVC). The PRP, TBP, TRP and LBP have achieved downsizing and easier maintainability using microprocessors and a PS SVC was designed to be less than unavailability target value using microprocessors. This paper describes the background of microprocessor application to NTT telecommunication power plant, outlines of this new power receiving system, its operation and maintenance, and how control equipment reliability is designed
