Abstract :
This paper reports on the initial findings of a coordinated program to assess the usefulness of battery impedance measurements as a maintenance tool. A newly developed impedance meter is being widely used to characterise the online cell and battery impedances of the range of lead-acid batteries used in the network. Early trends and some aspects associated with the use and interpretation of on-line impedance measurements are discussed. Encouraging results of the use of dynamic impedance measurement during discharge testing are also presented
