Abstract :
A pacing control system for use in steckel mills is simulated using actual operating data. The pacing control system determines the best time to discharge the slab from the furnace. The method by which the simulation calculates time savings and cost associated with delayed material is outlined. The simulation program is described. The effect of the final product gauge on the pacing algorithm and the associated costs and benefits is assessed using actual operating data.
