Abstract :
In this paper, 3 layered EBG superstrate structure with 13 times 13 unit cells is proposed. The unit cell is consists of two annular ring and an annular ring slot in the vertical direction. By the introduction of defects in the structure, the radiation bandwidth can be enhanced and unit cell size is reduced. The fabricated EBG superstrate shows the gain enhancement of 3 dBi - 5.4 dBi, compared to that of the antenna only case. These technique can be used to design a EBG superstrate structure below 3 GHz frequency region, effectively.
