Abstract :
Session initiation protocol (SIP) is important for end-to-end communication services. Furthermore, a dual-stack network is important for the transition from IPv4 to IPv6. There are few proposals for IPv4/IPv6 SIP interworking methods in dual-stack networks. In a dual-stack network, the IP versions of the originating and terminating terminals are determined at the time of session initiation, so a protocol translation determination function is needed to minimize the amount of protocol translation. In this paper we propose two IPv4/IPv6 SIP interworking methods that eliminate unnecessary IPv4/IPv6 translations. We evaluated the existing methods and the proposed methods.
