Abstract :
Synchronous machines are used both as generators and motors. Different models are available to calculate their steady-state and transient behaviour. They are normally based on Park´s equations where the machine windings are represented by a number of inductances and resistances. The present paper describes a mathematical model that allows taking main field saturation into account in a simple way. Quantitative simulation results are given for a synchronous motor for several operation cases including line start.
