Abstract
The operating principle of a passive UHF RFID tag is to receive the field illuminated by the reader antenna, energize the tag IC, and then backscatter the field modulated by the data stored in the IC. To increase the detection range, the illuminating field should be effectively coupled to the IC and the difference of the backscattered field between two impedance loading states of the tag IC should be as large as possible.
