Abstract
A high power saturable reactor can be used together with a shunt reactor or instead of a shunt reactor for high and superhigh-voltage lines. In such a reactor some parts of a magnetic circuit are deeply saturated. So the key problem for these reactors is their current distortion. Therefore, special methods must be applied to reduce higher harmonics in the main current of a reactor. In this paper some results are presented for a saturable reactor with the improved waveform of main current. Depending on a saturation principle, the saturable reactors can be saturated with alternating current (saturated reactors) and with direct current (DC controlled reactors)
