Abstract :
In this paper, a method to obtain high efficiency at low speed region of permanent magnet motor with redundant structure is suggested. The output power of large permanent magnet motor like ship propulsion system varies very much as the speed changes. At low speed region, the output power of the motor is very much smaller than that of high speed region and the efficiency decrease also. In order to compensate the low efficiency, redundant phase coils are connected in serial by a electronic switch and excited by half switching components of that of high speed excitation. In this case, the switching loss decreases and the system efficiency can be improved. In this research, the control method which can increase the system efficiency and torque ripple characteristics is proposed. Scale-downed motor-inverter system is analyzed and the effect of the proposed method is verified. The real motor-inverter system is manufactured and will be tested soon.
