Abstract
In this paper, the median filter and the adaptive weighted median filter (AWMF) are applied to intravascular ultrasound images. Some limitations of these filters are discussed in detail. To overcome the streak effect of median filter a modified method is proposed. Experiment with clinical intravascular ultrasound images shows that this filter can suppress speckles significantly while the edges are well preserved
