Abstract :
This paper presents the method design of experiments (DoE) in the engine calibration process shortly. Modern diesel engines are controlled via maps that have to be calibrated using measurements from an engine test bench. The maps have to fulfil various soft and hard constraints like smoothness and drivability. Therefore two criteria for smooth and drivable calibrated diesel engine maps are defined and evaluated. The criteria are used to create optimal and drivable engine maps. Optimization and smoothing are combined in one step of the engine calibration process
