Abstract :
The operation principle of a new permanent magnet(PM) brushless DC generator composed of PM machine with 12-phase rectification circuit are introduced. The phase conduction modes of the DC generator at normal and open-ircuit fault condition are analyzed. Field-circuit coupled analysis based on the 2-D finite element model is preformed, and the output characteristics of the PM brushless DC generator with multiphase winding broken are simulated and investigated. A prototype generator is developed, and the experimental results is given to verify the validity of theoretical analysis and simulation results, which indicate the satisfactory fault-tolerant characteristics of the 12-phase PM brushless DC generator.
