Abstract :
Resource constraint is something that restricts the development of things due to resource shortages and environmental damage. The development of equipment also faces the resource constraint seriously. For example, the fossil energy and traditional metal resources will run out in a limited period and the activities in equipment life cycle bears inescapable responsibility to environmental pollution. Some issues those lead to equipment non-sustainable development are exposed in the rigorous situation of resource constraint. First, almost all the main equipment use oil as energy and that is irrational energy consumption structure because it is highly dependent on the fossil energy which will run out sooner or later. Second, there is massive consumption of all types of materials in equipment construction, but a lot of waste equipment do not be reused or disposed appropriately resulted in substantial waste of resources. Third, it will have a lot of waste emissions in all sectors of equipment life cycle such as manufacturing, storage, using, maintenance and waste disposal, resulted in serious environmental pollution. The mean of equipment sustainable development based on resource constraint is that the development of equipment can break through the bottleneck of resource constraint and achieve harmony with the resources and environment. The fundamental approach to achieve that goal is to implement the equipment resource-ability design. The resource-ability is a kind of design attributes of equipment, and it can be defined like this: the capabilities of alleviating resource shortage and environmental hazards, promoting resource economization and environment-friendly, on the basis of meeting every military demand. The main idea of equipment resource-ability design is that: take the resource using and environmental impacting into equipment design, and make sure the equipment born with resource-conserving and environment-friendly genes, in order to promote the coordination of - - equipment, resource and environment, and to advance equipment sustainable development. Resource-ability design should adopt some design ideas. First, resource substituting: substituting new-type energy for fossil energy; substituting recycled metal for original exploited metal; substituting advanced materials for traditional material; substituting green materials for environmental endangered materials. Second, intensive integration: improving resource utilization efficiency through rational design methods by the considering of function and structure. Third, environment protection: reducing the environment endangering through some approach such as adoption of green material, improvement of the function and structure in equipment design.
