Abstract :
In this paper, a new space diversity antenna for mobile phones has been proposed and fabricated. It consists of two symmetrical PIFA with a small step-ground in a compact space of the size of a mobile phone. To improve the isolation between the two diversity antennas, a slot on the center of the ground plane is adopted to cut off the conducted current between the two antennas. The diversity antenna was simulated and fabricated. The measured impedance bandwidth (S11 < -6 dB) can almost cover the GSM band (890 MHz-960 MHz) and DCS band (1710 MHz-1880 MHz), while the mutual coupling is also at the acceptable level in the GSM band (S12 < -8 dB) and DCS band (S12 < -12 dB).
