Abstract :
In this paper, the design & performance of two dimensional (2-D) photonic crystal (PhC) wavelength division demultiplexer is investigated using finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The photonic band gap (PBG) is calculated by plane wave expansion (PWE) method. The reported design provides two de-multiplexed signals one at wavelength 1.31μm and another at wavelength 1.55μm which belong to the most popular II and III windows with respect to low attenuation and dispersion losses in optical communication system. The device is investigated by varying the design parameters. This de-multiplexer is useful for wavelength division de-multiplexing (WDDM) applications. This may serve as key component in integrated nanophotonic circuits. The de-multiplexer is designed by two dimensional photonic crystal having 14×17 dielectric rods suspended in the air background. The Q factor of this de-multiplexer is obtained about 224 and 250 for wavelengths 1.31μm and 1.55μm respectively.
