Abstract :
SOMGIS is a service oriented model which uses SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) concepts as the basic architectural concept and employs OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) standards to support GIS concerns in the organization. This model is based on relevant studies that encourage organizations to use SOA concepts and OGC standards for developing GIS (Geographic Information System) software applications. These studies show that such combination can overcome most of todays GIS application development problems such as lack of interoperability, agility, and business alignment. SOMGIS (Service OrOriented model for GIS Software Architecture) consists of a reference model, conceptual model, and a design method. Reference model shows roadmap of any future architectural and design efforts. Conceptual model introduces a conceptual service oriented solution for reference model. Finally, service oriented design method leads organizations to reach the solution through specific process. As the result SOMGIS provides general software architecture, which covers both real enterprise requirements and GIS concerns in the organization. It is an agile model with proper patterns which increase interoperability and reusability across the enterprise. Also the model has the capability of adopting itself with any organizations and be customized to any specific GIS applications.
