Abstract :
This study draws from the advanced manufacturing technology (AMT) theory and explores the effects of organizational management on implementation of AMT. Three most important characteristics of organizational management, managerial flexibility, organizational size, and supplier management ability are identified. And AMT system is further classified into three categories, manufacturing technology, devising technology, and administrant technology. Based on literature review of the relationship between AMT and the three characteristics of organizational management, three hypotheses regarding such relationship are proposed. The hypotheses are tested among 709 manufacturing enterprises using data collected from International Manufacturing Strategy Survey (IMSS) database 2005. The result supports our hypotheses that organizational management has overall positively effects on AMT, while the effects of each characteristic of organizational management on each category of AMT are inconsistent. The empirical investigation of the relationship in this study provides insight to both academic world and manufacturing industry, especially to the Chinese business management activities.
