A new technique to threshold the courtesy amount of Brazilian bank checks

Automatic bank check processing is a very difficult task. The images have complex background which is a problem for an automatic recognition system. Our purpose is focused in the thresholding phase of the courtesy amount. The new approach uses histogram specification and Tsallis entropy to find the best threshold value. The results show that the method proposed achieves the best results if compared to other classical algorithms.
