Abstract :
Summary form only given. The ability to control and vary the radial profile of the initial mass distribution for Z-pinch implosion is critical to both increase the K-shell X-ray yield and to elucidate the physics that determine pinch quality and yield. Toward that end, we have developed a triple-plenum gas valve that feeds a nozzle consisting of 2 concentric shells and an axial jet. Each plenum is independent in terms of gas pressure and constituents, affording the required flexibility. We will report on the results of experiments performed with this nozzle on several different pulse power generators covering a range of peak currents and implosion times
