Abstract
The recent trend towards dual- and tri-band handsets has resulted in the necessity for more complex antenna and TX/RX switching topologies together with far more stringent electrical specifications relating to factors such as harmonic generation. This paper describes how GaAs MMIC antenna switches may be used to provide the TX/RX and antenna diversity configurations. The inherent ability of GaAs MMICs to integrate complex functions into a small area has helped alleviate the severe constraints imposed on the radio designer. Measurements will be presented for a realistic radio implementation together with a discussion on critical specifications
