Abstract :
This paper presents a novel single-phase reluctance generator with low-cost ferrite magnets between adjacent stator teeth. The stator has both 4-pole field and 8-pole armature windings. The armature windings are connected to the input terminals of a single-phase full-bridge rectifier circuit as AC power source. The DC output terminals are connected to the field windings to increase the excited flux. The ferrite magnets give the residual magnetism in the stator core. This generator is able to build up completely the induced voltages in the armature windings by the help of the residual magnetism. The novel single-phase reluctance generator has been proposed and the prototype generator has been designed, made and tested. The load performance characteristics have been measured. It has been confirmed that the measured values at rated condition are nearly corresponding to the designed values.
