Abstract :
Summary form only given. Maximum soft X-ray power scaling for multiwire arrays is very important for estimation of necessary current amplitude for achieving of high thermonuclear gain of Z-pinch ICF targets. For this reason deviations from expected I2-scaling revealed in [W.A. Stygar, et al., Phys. Rev. E 69, 046403 (2004)] caused a lot of subsequent theoretical and experimental works devoted to this problem. There are several reasons that are able to cause these deviations: a) features of plasma ablation from wires and its implosion; b) deficiency of energy deposition rate into central pinch; c) deficiency of central pinch emissivity; and d) leakage of current outside the central cap. The latter item is not related directly with intrinsic physics of multiwire array dynamics and will not be considered here. We will argue that the whole series of data concerning the problem may be arranged if we take into account only possible deficiency of central Z-pinch emissivity. If this suggestion will be confirmed by further experiments, then we will be forced to increase diameters of multiwire arrays or to decrease current rise time to recover I2 -scaling of maximum power of soft X-ray pulses
