Abstract :
The prediction model proposed by Karasawa and Matsudo is a simplified method for the conversion of 1-minute rain rate from hourly rainfall rate data. In this paper, studies on the Karasawa and Matsudo model have been done to obtain suitable parameters for the local climatic conditions in Singapore. Data from recent years are used to derive the a and b parameters of the Karasawa and Matsudo model. The refined model with these parameters is proposed. The results show that the refined coefficients perform better in prediction accuracy for local climate as compared to the original ones. It is found that the RMS error and absolute error are small and the prediction accuracy is high (improved over the original model). Furthermore, the prediction results are not affected by neither the occurrences of the El Nintildeo/La Nintildea nor the physical location. Therefore, this proposed refined model is a general model suitable for the Singapore climate.
